After the fiasco of Obike and Bee Bike in Rome, we thought to never see another dockless bike sharing service, ever again. But, just a couple of weeks ago, we started noticing bright red and very cool looking bikes around the center.
Yes, it’s a new dockless, ELECTRIC bike sharing by UBER!!! WOW!!!
UBER in collaboration with the city of Rome (almighty SPQR), introduces a new dockless, electric bike sharing service.
It’s hard to say, at this stage, if the service will last or meet the same fate as its predecessors. It is here now, so let me tell you how it works.
1. You have to download the UBER app (if you don’t already have it), it’s available for both iOS and Android.
2. Connect a valid credit card.
3. Find a nearest available bike on your app thanks to the GPS installed in every bike.
4. Scan the code to activate.
Unlock your bike by scanning the QR code. Everything is explained very well, user friendly and intuitive.
The dashboard is very easy to use as well. After activating your bike, press the power button to turn it on. When you’re done with the bike you switch it off by pressing the Pause button. If you have a problem with your bike, press the “wrench” button on the right side.
A very simple yet sturdy smartphone rack allows you to use the map or GPS while riding.
The cost is based on both the distance and time traveled.
The bikes are electric-assisted, so it’s much easier to ride.
You can check the battery life simply by pressing the power button, or report a problem by pressing the wrench button.
