What you can expect on Family Tour of Ancient Rome – The Hidden City

Meet your expert guide at the center of Barberini square and embark on this amazing voyage through 2000 years of history of Rome. Our tours are led by history experts who will share their passion and knowledge of ancient Rome with you and your small group (10 people or less). This walking tour is perfect for families as the kids under 15 can join for free.

You will commence this tour by exploring Baroque squares, churches and fountains of Rome, as well as the largest Papal Palace ever built. Your guide will take you off the beaten tourist track to discover unnoticed and hidden treasures of Rome.

The tour of ancient Rome continues into the neighborhood of Monti, an ancient and very traditional part of the historic center of Rome. Monti is home to some of the prettiest streets and finest eateries of the Eternal City. This ancient quarter is also the birthplace of glorious Julius Caesar. Uncover the hidden gems of Monti like the palace of Pope Borgia, and the ancient basilica of Saint Peter’s with the awe-inspiring statues by Michelangelo.

Next stop on this tour is a little bridge with a stunning view of Colosseum. Gaze up this astonishing amphitheater as your guide gives you a detailed description of its architecture and tells you the truth about gore and bloody gladiatorial combats that unfolded on the arena.

Now it’s time for something cool that your kids will love. Let’s visit the church of Francesca, the patron saint of Roman drivers. In this church, you will descent into the dark underground to witness something very unusual and creepy. Behold the relic of this unknown saint – full skeleton of Francesca peacefully resting under the high altar. Photos are allowed!

From the church of Santa Francesca, walk up the ancient winding street to the top of the most important hill of Rome. Learn about the founders of Rome, twins Romulus and Remus, and admire a panoramic view of the heart of the imperial Rome.

The tour ends on the Capitoline Hill in the very center of Rome. Your guide will make sure to explain how to get back to your hotel, or give you some suggestions on where to find the best places for lunch.
